I love that clip. JJ's got way more bad ass going on in that video than I'll ever have. It also reminds me of how great flats on a Jazz Bass can sound.

2 days away from the 40th anniversary of King Curtis's murder. Such a fantastic sax player. But to this video and Jemmott is absolutely killing it! Became a big fan of King Curtis thanks to Duane Allman playing with him. Such great great music...

I'm listening to the King Size Soul album now. Not 100% sure if JJ is on this whole album or not. I love this sound. The strings add a really nice vibe to it.

I really only knew King Curtis from the Allman Brothers cover of Soul Serenade: Allman Brothers - Soul Serenade [In Memory Of King Curtis] - YouTube

This was recorded 2 weeks after King Curtis' death, and only 2 months before Duane himself would die. Bittersweet to say the least. Speaking of which, that was 40 years ago come 8/26.

Whoops, totally missed AlvarHanso's comment, pretty much what I just said. But it can't be overstated I guess

Check out KCurtis Games People Play with Duane on slide and SITAR! King Curtis Feat. Duane Allman - Games People Play (1969) - YouTube They also played together on Aretha Franklin's version of The Weight, which led to another instrumental version of the song being credited to King Curtis, with the same musicians that's slightly different. Two of my favorite musicians...
