I went to Memphis a few weeks ago and remember watching Aloha from Hawaii a few weeks before that so Elvis had been on my mind. I got to visit Graceland and saw Aloha from Hawaii again . I was so impressed by Scheff's playing. He's playing pretty busy but then again it fits the song and grooves. He's got a great tone the whole time. I had heard Jerry through The Doors first and he also does an amazing job with them . I just thought he needed some recognition.

I have to say plus one million on this statement here. I just got the hawaii dvd a couple of days ago mostly because of all the Elvis hype from the aniversery of his death and Jerry's bass playing is the coolest thing I've ever heard. Every note fits perfectly. I like how Elvis introduces him...."on the Fender bass...." That's cool. I'm pretty sure thet everybody just should have stopped making rock and roll after Elvis and that band.

I'll ALWAYS remember the time (in Dicember of '69) that I saw Elvis "Live" in Las Vegas. The best part was hangin' out with JS after the show (I was also appearing at the same hotel that month). A "cool" guy . . . and a hell-of-a-bass player!

In the day, there were a lot of records that listed "Fender Bass" in the credits as instrument played.

Love Scheff's playing on The Doors' L.A. Woman album.

+1. The job listings for most musicians unions had two categories for bass-- bass, and Fender bass, using the latter as a generic term for electrics.

A few years back, after looking at his home page I dropped him a short note to say I really appreciated his being a bassist... a couple weeks later I got a personal email from him!! What a humble guy.

He mentioned in an interview that he doesn't remember a lot of his performances, recording sessions etc... the man was busy, but he did say he has a hard time listening to the Madison Square Live album and believing that it is himself playing...

if you like the Aloha live check out the Madison Square album... it blows the Aloha away as far as Scheffs playing goes... it is unbelievable playing, the man was totally on for those shows...
