Just wondering if anyone knows anything about his gear ...bass, amp, etc. And/or if you've seen him live on his electric. Thanx.

Anytime I've hung with Jim, we only talk upright. He's mentioned that he got the electric mainly for recording, but it isn't his love by any means. I believe he has a Pedula 4 string but I could be wrong.
Jim is such a strong upright player, with some of the best tone out there. He's on so many great albums. Nice man.

I have 2 old P-Basses, one is 1959 and the other is 1964. Mostly used the '64 for recording. I was a little worried about even taking the '59 out of my house. For recording, I seldom used an amp because of "leakage" considerations. Whenever I used an amp, it was a Walter Woods (I have two of them) and either a Gauss or JBL 15" speaker in a cabinet designed by Peter Woodford to be used with a WW amp. Strings were Fender flat/nickel. Now I use Thomastik flat. (I also use Thomastik on my uprights.) I also have three 5-string basses - 2 Yamaha (one is fretless) and one Ibanez Soundgear. On these, I have used mostly LaBella round.
