i was wearing my beige jimi hendrix shirt to school once, and my guitarist buddie said, "dude, why don't you wear a famous bass player?" and i thought....i AM wearing a famous bass player lol
Hendrix was a great bassist. He grew up playing whatever in R&B bands so I wouldnt be suprised if he occasionally played the bass in some of those early bands. All you have to do is listen to tElectric Ladyland and hear some of the great lines that he created. He was a big Motown fan and you can hear that influence when he plays bass.
He played bass like a bassist, a good bassist. Jimi played bass on the Jimi & Curtis Knight recordings. The record people plastered huge pictures of him playing guitar to sell the albums.
