Anyone here who knows more about this guy? I've heard him on several country albums lately, among others Carrie Underwood's latest cd "Carnival Ride". I love his playing, his tone. Does anyone know what kind of basses and strings he uses? |

Didn't Jimmy Sloas play on Megadeth's The System has Failed?
There was some ok bass on that album, but it's just odd that a country bassist would be playing with Megadeth. I mean, I know that Megadeth has had a slew of jazz players, but country is not a genre I think of first when I think of chops. Bluegrass, sure, but not country.
Oh well, decent album. Good bass playing.

I'm sure he probably still uses it. I believe he tunes his basses down a whole step... Shawn might know for sure.

| | | | The gold jazz was built by Jerry Jones to the same specs as his '64. It has been modded over the years but I'm pretty sure its the Dimarzio pups with the mid shift. He does use an SVT. But don't think that he doesn't use many basses in the studio. He's been known to use pretty much any bass to get the sound someone wants. I think the Keith Urban "Put You in a Song" was on a '51 P.

I've got my compression dialed in a little better these days so it sits in that pocket similarly, but I sure as hell don't have that sweet tone! I've switched to maple necks (well not rosewood fb anyway) and flatwounds, and I think I'm getting closer. Wonder if anybody else knows any details... | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
