Any fans of Jimmy here? He's one of my all-time favorites. Apparently he was renowned by the other members of Dio for his ability to play perfectly while completely blitzed out of his mind.

His playing was very solid and his tone was great.

I love his black Yamaha BB3000, even though I'm a Fender man.

Yeah, he has a nice tone. I like his sound on Dio's Holy Diver.

Anyone know how Ronnie is doing??

Apparently he's undergoing chemo and doing pretty well.

Good to hear that he is doing well.
Ronnie is one of a kind.

Thanks for the update.

Big fan here. Loved the early Dio stuff. What's he doing now?

A couple years ago, before the Heaven and Hell reunion, Jimmy was playing bass in 3 Legged Dogg, which is a REALLY good band with some old '80s luminaries. They made an excellent album called "Frozen Summer." If you haven't heard it, check it out. You won't be disappointed (Vinny Appice is the drummer).

Unfortunately, from what I understand Jimmy has not been doing real well lately (drugs, alcohol, etc.). Too bad, because he's a great metal bassist and a very good songwriter.

Always glad to hear from someone else who appreciates Jimmy's talent. So freakin' solid!!!

Jimmy Bain, there's a name I've not heard in a while. I'm also a fan, loved his stuff with Rainbow (although Blackmore didn't keep him around long) and early Dio.

I like Bain's playing and songwriting with Wild Horses. Very Thin Lizzy -like stuff (no wonder with Brian Robertson as his sparring partner). Bain worked with Lynott also, even played keyboards on Phil's solo band tour in 1982.

Other favourite is John Cale's "Animal Justice" EP from 1977.

By the way, if you are interested in what 3 Legged Dogg is capable of, here's the title track of their first album from '06 (with Jimmy on bass):

They are a damn good band.

Dumb question, but is Jimmy playing a Rickenbacker on Holy Diver (song & LP)? He has a weird, cheap Rick copy in the video for Rainbow In the Dark, but the overall tone on the record screams Rick. Just curious...

I always liked Jimmy.....I know he's kind of a train wreck but that's part of his appeal!

Jimmy is the reason I checked out Ashdown amps, which he now uses and endorses - although my understanding is that he used G-K amps back in his days with Rainbow and Dio.

I don't think he played a Ric on "Holy Diver." He'd been playing Yamaha BBs since the late Seventies in Wild Horses. I could be wrong though.

I'll check out the "Rainbow in the Dark" video.

Always liked Jimmy when I was a kid. He was one of my favorite bassists to copy, hopping around my bedroom like a ****** with my old washburn bass.
