Hi everybody.
Yesterday, a friend showed me a tune called "So What" from this CD. Jimmy Earl is the bass player and frankly, that's a new name for me. I'm trying to get some info about him (as a bassist, of course), but can't find anything. Any input is highly appreciated. Thank you in advance! |

Check out his fine work on Robben Ford's "Supernatural", Chick Corea Elektrik Band's "Paint the World", and Mark Varney's "Truth In Shredding" to hear three totally unique sides to Jimmy's work.
I honestly feel Jimmy has something special going on when he plays...
Please check out my blog review http://sonuthebassplayer.blogspot.co...ass-hero2.html and let me know what you think. Hope you find the information useful.

pop artists. His steady gig at the moment is the Jimmy Kimmel
show. Nice guy, killer musician, top end pro player. |

Lots of sequencing on the record but done very tastefully.
Its one of my favorites and its something that any progressive bass player should check out.

The first time I saw him play was WAY back in the day with Michael Franks. He is very much in the Will Lee model of player.... perfect support, great chops, great tone, only flashy when the music calls for it.
The Chick Corea 'Paint the World' disc mentioned above, which was kind of a 'post Electrik Band' sort of project is also a great way to check out Jimmy's tone and playing. Very nice CD and great bass tone and playing. |

Jimmy lived here in NYC in the mid '80's, we did a few of the same gigs in town. Great guy and great player, he played in Stanley Clarke's band in the '90's too. |

At the time earl was an early convert to Ken Smith. I remember seeing him at the fairgrounds in Detroit, and he had one of the first Ken Smith Six string basses I ever saw back in 1988 or so.

Big fat pocket, incredibly musical, and from everything I've heard he's a great breed of cat. I love the stuff with Chick, but when he plays with Robben Ford...oh my. |

I did get to see him with the next version of that group, with James Genus, Bob Berg and Chick (kind of a 'post Acoustik Band' sort of thing). That was also a wonderful band and project.
Jimmy Earl... amazing. When you check him out playing that FrankenFender sort of very traditional tone and groove thing with Ford, and then hear him just BLAZING on that very modern sounding fretless, he has everything covered. Amazing player. |

He sounds like a totally legit modern blues player (as he should with that gig) in tone, approach, everything. Then without touching a knob or losing a step, he solo's and it sounds like a horn player... beautiful lines, tight, punchy, very articulate 'at the bridge digging in tone', and Patitucci/Pope chops and overall execution. He is really something! |

| | | | I'd like to hear more about his "FrankenFender" - I see him playing it on the Jimmy Kimmel show, looks like a J bass with an added P between the pickups.

here's a picture | I'm not wild about Warwicks normally, but that is very nice looking, and with the maple neck I bet it plays nice too.
