Anyone know what amp settings are good to get a sound like JJ?
I know he used a guitar amp with a blown speaker, but is there a way to get a similar sound with a bass amp?
Here's some examples of what I'm talking about: http://youtube.com/watch?v=5h6xVZHbz3Y

I think a P-Bass and a Pick are the number 1 and 2 things you need to master.

F**king MONSTER tone. I love JJ's tone.

BTW I love Hugh's guitar tone and playing as well.... And Jet's metronome playing......

a 40/60 mix of clean sound and heavy distortion usually works for me.

They played a lot locally and many of my friends were musicians at the same time - the big thing somebody mentioned to me who knew him, was that J-J played a P-Bass with very low action, so a lot of what you are hearing is distorted string noise etc. - but used in a controlled manner!

Phillistine! That WAS the Stranglers 'sound', and the tone was awesome.

JJ is God, etc.
