For those who love the slightly old-school p-bass thing, check this guy out. He's originally from Michigan but currently lives in LA. His band is called Population Game (made up of all former Michiganders), and I think his most recent high profile thing was with Enrique Iglasias' touring band.

Joe is an old friend of mine; we were at Western Michigan at the same time so I got to hear him a lot. My old band gigged with his a couple of times too. He's a really good guy and great player; all of the Population Game guys are. His first "big" gig was playing for Liz Phair, and from there he's just been kicking butt and taking names.
