Joe Lester of Intronaut has quickly become one of my favorite bassists after I starting listening to them heavily a few months back. For those unfamiliar with the band, Intronaut is a progressive metal band with lots of jazz influences sections in their music. Joe plays a Pedulla Pentabuzz, and he basically shines on every track. What amazes me about him is his ability to play brilliant leads and melodies, but be able to sit back at other times and be completely supportive of the music without drawing too much attention to himself. His intricate playing never seems like a gimmick, and always sounds perfect in the music. Anyone into sludge/progressive/
slightly jazz influences metal, should definitely check out Intronaut and the fretless wizardry of Joe Lester.
Anyone else who has any info or appreciation for him, please chime in! As far as his other gear goes, he (used to?) play SWR gear, but he may have switched to Ampeg recently. The only pedal I've seen him use in pics is a Boss Bass Overdrive, although he is using some delay and other effects on Primordial Soup.
Here is Joe doing a play along to one of their songs. Not the best quality, but it gives you a good idea of his playing style.
