I've seen him with a Fender Jazz and an Ibanez. He used to endorse SWR amps.

In the March '92 issues of Bass Player, it's reported that he "currently tours with several 80's Fender Jazz Basses and a Tobias 5-string, all with Bartolini 94J quadrophonic pickups" and that he's "really looking forward to seeing the new Epiphone John Alderte Signature Bass; it will incorporate my ideas of what a bass should be: a Precision body with a Jazz neck, Bartolini 94Js, a Gotoh bridge, and a graphite nut'".

I personally don't recall ever seeing any such signature bass on the market, however. Blame grunge if you must.
