John Entwistle's First Song

Sign in to disble this ad
One day, Entwistle was out drinking with Rolling Stone's bassist Bill Wyman. They started thinking up names for animals, when Enwistle thought up the name Boris the Spider.
Due to pressure from Townshend for the other bandmembers to write songs, Etwistle wrote a song called "Boris the Spider"

It is a strange song, with weird lyrics and the chorus sung in death metal like style. For your entertainment(?) I have posted a link so you can listen to this somewhat strange song below.

Enjoy.

I wouldn't say it's really a death metal style vocal...

I've never really liked that song. I'm not much of a Who fan anyhow!

There's nothing "death metal" about the growl that John Entwistle used on a handful of The Who songs. In fact, I'm pretty sure that metal didn't exist when he wrote "Boris the Spider."

Entwistle did help write "The Ox" for their first album, too.

I thought "Whiskey Man" was his first song. He introduced in concert as such.

Wikipedia says "death metal"

Doesn't mean that Wiki is right about everything.

I believ it is true that this was the first one he wrote by himself

Nobody cares about Wikipedia. You could have written it.

Death metal style? Not really. One can understand what Entwistle is singing.

I kid, I kid. I love Boris the Spider, not only because I've been on a Who kick as of late, but because it's a fun song and connects with my distaste for spiders in general. "Now he's met a sticky end/Don't think he will ever mend/Never more will he crawl round/He's embedded in the ground" makes me grin.

I do like the lyrics. Entwistle also had a fear of spiders, whcih is why he wrote these lyrics. The song is still entertaining, if not the best by the who (or entwistle)
