If I recall, he was right there but he was playing a guitar. Lennon wasn't much of a bass player huh. I have to say though, solo that sounds pretty rudimentary and bland, but in the mix it sure fit like a glove didn't it?

Paul was a guitar player, keyboard player, bass player, singer and song writer. When he was playing guitar or keys John and George often played bass.

Exactly. One thing The Beatles and George Martin were the best in the world at ( at the time anyway) was writing and recording pop/rock music.

The great book "Here There And Everywhere" by Geoff Emerick is a must read for musicians who are Beatle fans, I read it twice! He covers this a lot, they had a right handed Jazz and a Fender Bass VI on hand at all times for when Paul was playing guitar, but it was almost always George who got "stuck" playing it, aparently they both hated doing it but George had the more passive personality so it was almost always him!!!!!

FWIW, I never liked the bass line on Helter Skelter
