My god he is the best bassist I have ever seen or heard. All I can say is wow!!!! A god on bass. He will be my number one influence. I'll be seeing them live on May 28th in Atlanta. I'm blown away by him. That is all! |

Anyway, I was always kinda like "Myung, watever", until I started listening much closer... he is amazing. Plays just what the song needs, or something totally crazy and technical. I read the other night that he actually warms DOWN after gigs!

| | | | Yea, whenever I listened to Dream Theater, I always listened to Petrucci. But when I started playing bass about a month ago, I started hearing Myung coming through the mix. My jaw just dropped to the floor. I heard that when he and Petrucci were in Berklee, they made a pact to practice their instruments at least 6 hours every day. I guess it paid off for the both of them. |

Alot of guys on here don't think much of him though, say he's too technical or some such nonsense , but FWIW I think he's really good and he definitely got me more interested in prog music.

I sometimes wonder how John Myung can play as fantastically as he does since his left-hand technique looks so inefficient and exaggerated. But whatever, he's an awesome bassist, and his lines are fun to attempt.

:cough: maybe that's why I suck at bass :cough:
The guy rocks

Maybe if we all pull together and do some TB Voodoo we can summon the powers of the universe to extract him from the band. All in a nice, ethical way of course. |

I met them a coupla years ago at a meet-and-greet during the Awake tour. I told Myung how great I thought he was, he said thanks, shook my hand, and was very humble. Petrucci and Portnoy were funny, seemed to enjoy themselves, Labrie looked like he'd rather be having a root canal! This was right after Moore left, so I only have 4 autographs on my copy of Awake!

I agree that people tend to take his modesty and shyness as being stuck up. Not so. He's a very humble and quiet guy, but nice nonetheless. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
