My god he is the best bassist I have ever seen or heard. All I can say is wow!!!! A god on bass. He will be my number one influence. I'll be seeing them live on May 28th in Atlanta. I'm blown away by him. That is all!

I was never a huge Dream Theater fan.... until I heard them. A friend guided me in the right direction! Anyway, I was always kinda like "Myung, watever", until I started listening much closer... he is amazing. Plays just what the song needs, or something totally crazy and technical. I read the other night that he actually warms DOWN after gigs!

Yea, whenever I listened to Dream Theater, I always listened to Petrucci. But when I started playing bass about a month ago, I started hearing Myung coming through the mix. My jaw just dropped to the floor. I heard that when he and Petrucci were in Berklee, they made a pact to practice their instruments at least 6 hours every day. I guess it paid off for the both of them.

I wou;dn't say he's the best bassist ever, but yeah he's really good.

Alot of guys on here don't think much of him though, say he's too technical or some such nonsense , but FWIW I think he's really good and he definitely got me more interested in prog music.

Dream Theater is a cool band, I just vehemently despise James Labrie. Dunno why, but his voice irritates the bujeezus outta me.

+1 (If not for some well written lyrics by Myung, I wish they were instrumental)

Just get Live at Budokan on DVD and check out the first three tunes - it starts off already pretty built and keeps building. Then they take a little (LITTLE) break and crank back up to Instrumedley. These guys are sick.

I sometimes wonder how John Myung can play as fantastically as he does since his left-hand technique looks so inefficient and exaggerated. But whatever, he's an awesome bassist, and his lines are fun to attempt.

I used to be a big fan of his because he started out on violin just like me, except that I never dropped the violin...
:cough: maybe that's why I suck at bass :cough:
The guy rocks

One of the more underrated bassist out there I believe. And yes, I cannot stand the vocals either. Maybe if we all pull together and do some TB Voodoo we can summon the powers of the universe to extract him from the band. All in a nice, ethical way of course.

He's a great bassist, but his tone live sometimes sounds terrible

Labrie is also a primadonna who seems to hate his fans!

I met them a coupla years ago at a meet-and-greet during the Awake tour. I told Myung how great I thought he was, he said thanks, shook my hand, and was very humble. Petrucci and Portnoy were funny, seemed to enjoy themselves, Labrie looked like he'd rather be having a root canal! This was right after Moore left, so I only have 4 autographs on my copy of Awake!

Hell, even in some of the recordings it's hard to hear him. He does do what he does well, though.

I agree that people tend to take his modesty and shyness as being stuck up. Not so. He's a very humble and quiet guy, but nice nonetheless.
