In fact, I think he used a Bongo 5 on some songs from Systematic Chaos. His tone is a bit better, though still a bit mid-scooped for my tastes. Still, it's a good move on his part, and now EB has to release that 6 string Bongo!

I imagine they must be thrilled to have both of Dream Theater's string players now.

Yeah maybe they can get the KB player to endorse their volume pedal next.

AFAIK, he used EBMMs exclusively to record Systematic Chaos, more specifically the Bongo HH 5 you mentioned and a Sterling HS 4. The only reason that he's been seen with his Yamaha recently is that he hadn't received the Bongo 6 prototype yet.

It's kind of a bummer, 'cos I just bought an RBX JM2 back in February, now it's already going to be outdated.

I've always loved John Myung, and always hated Yamaha. I really hope this Bongo 6 is killer.

BTW, when Dream Theater's guitarist, John Petrucci, does solo work, Dave LaRue plays bass and has awesome tone. He also uses Bongos (Bongoes?). Maybe this had a little influence on Myung.

In addition he used a stingray during DT's early years in the 80's and on their debut When Dream And Day Unite. It's hardly a new thing for him to be using MM basses.

But I guess it would be news that he is officially endorsing them now.

Also, in various making of videos for Dream Theater albums when Myung's basses are shown sometimes there is some sort of MM, but I can't remember which ones off hand.

I was just on the John Myung forum and John posted this picture of himself shredding on his new Bongo. Apparently he is really happy with it.

He is a fantastic player but his sound is not what I'm looking for. I saw him couple of weeks ago and his sound was not projecting enough.

Oh, absolutely. I still love mine. But a Bongo 6 HH is so tempting...

I sure hope a bassist from a band I actually like starts playing one!

Saw him live playing both of his Bongo 6's.

Not only the best bass I've ever heard being played, but I... HEARD IT BEING PLAYED!

He sounds beautiful.

His sound has always been crap, no matter what he's using.

I've never understood it. Oh well, he hits the strings hard enough. When they play Wembley I plan to be at the front and hopefully in front of JM — maybe I'll be able to hear the clacking :P
