Guys, session players do not pick and choose what they do! They get called to show up for a recording project and play. It could be a CD project, a soundtrack or a jingle. No one cares, it's just work and they get paid to do it. The more calls you take, the more work you get. Don't be over analytical or worse, don't think that someone who can really play won't want to do something to pay the bills!

Out

John Patitucci's album "Line by Line" is one of my favorites; his writing for strings is beautiful, and he plays exquisitely. I don't like his tone on electric when he plays lead, but that's just my taste. His tone on upright blows me away. I've got an album of him playing Stolen Moments with Ritenaeur on guitar, and it's so sweet...

A gig is a gig. If they are payin' musicians are playin'! Most session players would starve if they waited for the "quality" gigs... whatever "they" are.

Any Jellyfish fans here? John played a few tracks on their first album Bellybutton in 1990, upright and fretless only I believe.

i think it's a testament to what a monumental professional guys like jp are that they can take a gig folks would berate (like possibly this one) and give it their all, and probably cut some tasty lines in the process.

something to aspire to, and not derride.
