John Paul Jones BBC Bass tone

Sign in to disble this ad
First post for me

Listening to BBC sessions today I notice a really clangy bass tone on this compared toother zep on songs like Black Dog. I assume he's using a pick - even tho he was mostly a finger picker - but it sounds like its bi-amped or some effect because theres still a cleanbottom end that sonds like the Acoustic 360 used on other live stuff - have they mixed a direct feed back in? Cool tone I'vealways liked it but now I'm playing bass (reformed guitarist that I am) i'm more attuned to it. Any thoughts??

he was a finger-picker, yeah, but he's also said in numerous interviews that he played really hard with his fingers.

I have no idea how they ran the sound for that thing, though-- he might have been using other amps entirely.

John Paul Jones mostly played with his fingers, but he does play with pick everynow and then. On the tone, I have recorded seperate tracks of the same bassline using different techniques to create a particular tone. Mix it all together.
