John Paul Jones with Seasick Steve

Not sure if this was posted yet, but I didn't see it with a quick search. Anyway, the title is as it says. John Paul Jones has been playing with the bluesman Seasick Steve and there's lots of great bass playing to be seen. You can check it out at:

They were on Jools Holland as well:

Interview

There's even a gibson EB2 in there with flats. Don't think I've seen JPJ play flats(least it sounds like it) since Zeppelin. Let me know if any of you find anymore videos or information. Thanks!

Seasick Steve is big in the UK and EU but almost unknown in the US this has always seemed very odd to me.

Seasick Steve is big in the EU, yeah. Got to shake his hand once, great guy. Signed my copy of Dog House Music, too. This video is going on my facebook wall, for sure!

EDIT: and some Fender love from JPJ, that's been a while. Nice to see him still rocking the blues.

Yeah, it is a bit odd that an American bluesman seemingly coming right out of the depression era would only gain popularity across the pond, but I suppose that EU is just more open minded than the US at the moment. Sad to see the US lose its roots.

I think he had been busking around the UK and Europe and got 'discovered' and became a bit of a media darling in the UK (not to detract from him at all, he always comes across as grateful for the break after a lifetime of slogging it out without much recognition).

There is no reason he would get well known in the US unless he or his label decided to try and break him there.

Though some artists do well in both, they are very distinct markets and success in one does not ensure any in the other.

As for the US losing it's roots, it wouldn't be the first time it turned it's back on the blues it invented only to have the UK keep it alive and move it in a new direction. It would be fascinating to see where rock would have gone, (I imagine a lot less far) without the re-injection of American blues influences by the UK artists that eventually filtered back to the States to influence a new generation of rockers.

It's a fascinating period in popular music and an interesting phenomenon. I love following the streams of musical trends as they mix and cross-fertilise and recombine endlessly through time and geography.

Oh, my that's brilliant!
Confirms JPJ as the best and makes me even more excited for TCV's next record.

Try it, though. You might like it. It's fun.

I first heard about Seasick Steve via Jools Holland on Youtube.... (and I'm from the states and keep a close ear on the blues scene). Always fun listening.
