John Taylor from Duran Duran fame

At the risk of sounding cheesy, does anyone else appreciate his playing? I think his playing is amazing! He's all over the fret board...has his own sound too, I like that!

Check out especially "Rio", "New Religion", "Save a Prayer", the list can go on and on...

What are your thoughts??

Nope, you're absolutely right. He can really play.

Not cheesy one bit. Taylor is a beast of a bassist!

I remember Duran's first appearance on Saturday Night Live with John playing 'Girls On Film'~ it's fingerstyle funk, but he will slap the tar out of it live at times. The guy is good.

He was featured years ago in the Unsung Hero column in BP mag. I believe it was the one with Les on the cover with the trophy he got from Lifeson! And yeah, he's a badass!

Him and Steve Harris are the two guys who got me into playing bass in the first place! Great player, IMHO.

I've never noticed him to make a mistake in any live recording that I've heard/seen

John Taylor has got to be one of the more underrated bassists out there. Duran Duran was a phenomenon pretty well before "my time" - but when I finally gave it a serious listen, that bass made me really take it seriously. Nowadays I DO think he is a little busy, but he's still written some great lines.

Sometimes it feels like I am the only who knows what a great player that guy is. Very nice to see that others on TB appreciate his talent, because when I talk about him to my other musician buddies, they act surprised that Duran Duran would have any musicianship. Then, I play The Reflex for them and they act like they've never heard that bassline before.

Very good pop bassist! In the pop realm, John Taylor and Tony Kanal (No Doubt) are my two favorite players.

JT is an awesome player, but is/was probably overlooked due to DD's pretty boy image. The line to Rio is a real nice workout. JT owns Bernard Edwards' old Stingray and used it on Astronaut IIRC.
