Johnny Christ (A7X) Good or Bad??

Sign in to disble this ad
I don't know if this is the right place to post this, but here goes.

To metal bassist...
Do you think the bassist from Avenged Sevenfold, Johnny Christ, is a good bassist or not??
I have heard many people saying he is not that good while some are saying he is good..what are your opinions?

IMHO, nothing about A7X is good. I don't think anyone (besides the Rev, though he is now dead) is all that great in the band.

He fits. Nothing special, but he's solid.

I like his use of little licks and runs to spice up what would normally be very boring to play. Amazing? not really. Good? that's an easy yes.

He does exactly what you almost have to do in the context of a band like that. Nothing hes playing is particularly complicated but it fits the songs. I'd like to hear him in a different context before I'd say whether hes actually good or bad in A7X there isn't really enough room for him to really stretch out. That band is almost exclusively about the guitars and unison riffing from most of their stuff I've heard. Thats my opinion though.

Avenged sevenfold is awful. Instrumentally they are alright, But the vocals are so bad. He sounds like a metal brittany spears like hes singing through his nose. I want to punch him in the throat so bad every time I hear them.

If you listen to some of there less popular stuff they actually are pretty darn good, new album with Portnoy is really good as well, I've always been a fan and likely always will. He does a pretty good job in Avenged.

I'm not really even a fan of the band, but M. Shadows actually does have a pretty solid voice. He does that weird nasally thing a lot, which I'm not a HUGE fan of, but his more melodic, operatic style is very cool imo.

Did you read the OP question? I think he's bad. End of opinion.

He fits the band which means he's good for what they need. It's pretty simple... I would swap spots with him any freaking day.

They remind me too much of Disturbed due to vocals, and I can't stand Disturbed or A7X. Honestly the songs I have heard his playing or tone never stood out to me, good or bad.

i would submit you've never listened to either band... lol

Draiman sounds nothing like Matt. I mean, not even sorta/kinda close.

No I have. Their tone and phrasing are very similar.

I just realized though the bassist ripped off Danzigs guitar player for his name so regardless of talent he fails
