jon burr and info

I found some books by him and listened to a few songs but never found anything that was really impressive. he is a great melodic bassist and i was wondering what everyone else thought about him.

I didnt read the books since they were online and was wondering if i should bother buying them since its about the rare melodic side of bass rather than the constant 16 note driving.

yes i know this is in the electric bass section and hes an upright player but this is concerning his books and if they can be applyed to electric bass so i dont think im posting in the wrong section. feel free to move it if neccessary.

Jon Burr is a master. Buy the books, since you've got enough interest to post here, i really think you will find some good and helpful info......any info which gets you closer to playing melody while grooving will put you forward as a bass musician.

I think he's f$%^ing brilliant! I've had a career as a player and just started studying with Jon last year. He has changed my playing for the better on both my electric and my upright bass. He's helped me musically and physically. I can recommend anything he writes or teaches, but if you're near New York, go for a lesson.
As for the melodic bass playing book, there are some solid concepts that are well explained for either bass. The guy played electric with Buddy Rich, so you know he can play!
His website has some videos that are great Jon Burr - Bassist, Producer, Teacher, Composer

thanks for answering i was wondering about him cus he seemed to know his stuff but ive never sound anything that makes him stand out, which is usually a good sign of high level of skill, but he doesnt even stand out in his own band (the Jon Burr band) so i was a bit concerned.

thanks to ur posts i will buy all his books.

When a bass player doesn't stand out, that's a real good indicator that he's doing his job correctly.
