Sign in to disble this ad
I heard this guy was pretty good with a bass, particularly with his fussion work.

Can anyone recomend some stuff?

Also did he ever work with Allan Holdsworth? if so do tell what albums and whatnot.

Thanks For Your Time.

Icon is awesome insane middle eastern fusioin. Shawn Lane's last CD. you might find the vocalists too "out there" but it's a great album.

Anything with Shawn Lane.

Also, I just picked up the re-issue of Michael Shrieve's Two Doors...the 1st 1/2 of the album is Shrieve/Lane/Hellborg as a fairly straightforward Fusion power trio
(2nd 1/2 of the album is Shrieve/Wayne Horvitz/Bill Frisell in a less straightforward trio).

Do a search in the forum, there is plenty of love for Jonas here....

My personal favorite: "THE WORD" ~ Jonas, Tony Williams, a string Quartet and Bill Laswell producing...

Elegant Punk

Look through the first couple of pages of the "recordings" forum for a good break down my favourite album of his, Elegant Punk. It is fantastic, and single handedly made him one of my favourite bassists (this was before I had even got round to the Mahavishnu Orchestra and his work with Shawn lane!).

it's out of print so it cna be tricky to get, but it is astounding!

bump. jonas hellborg is amazing.

Could anyone recommend any of his more obscure stuff? Almost every time I delve into his discography, I find something new. I'm at school right now, but when I get home, I'm going to start making a list of his complete discography in this thread.

There's also Mahavishnu (when the band came back with a self-title album in the early 80'), with, of course, John McLaughlin on guitar, Billy "Boomer" Cobham - one if not my favorite drummer - Bill Evans on horns and Mitch Forman on keys. It's not for everyone - 80's fusion - but there is some great stuff in there. I know he also played with Mclaughlin and Gurtu but I don't think there is any recording of that.

Hellborg/Lane/Sipe-Personae
Hellborg/Lane/Sipe-Temporal Analogues of Paradise
Hellborg-Elegant Punk
Hellborg/Lane/Selvaganesh-Good people In times of Evil
Hellborg-Kali's Son

on pretty much constant rotation. It's fair to say I love Hellborg, I cop his licks all the time when I play!

Elegant Punk is without a doubt one of the best albums I have ever heard. It's been lost in time but it is without a doubt a total groundbreaker.

More love for Hellborg!

'The Word' is my favourite early-period Hellborg album. His best work as a composer. Hellborg + Tony Williams + a string section =
