I picked up a Curtis Mayfield Anthology disc today, they were playing it at a used record store. Anyway, I should know this but who played on his stuff, like "Pusherman", So in Love" and "Only You Man"? Classic textbook Funk lines, Great stuff. Also, who played on the Impressions stuff?

1971's show at the Bitter End in NYC released as "Curtis Live!" is an album that has one of my favorite bass tones EVER! |

I have two records that he's on, an Aretha Franklin one and a Curtis Mayfield record. He's got really great tone and feel. Show your love for this funky cat! |

Woody, do you have any detals on his passing? Other than album credits and the recent snippet in Bass Player the other month I've never found anything much about him.

I found this on the web: 'Hello, I was looking at your website and saw that someone was looking for info on Joseph 'Lucky' Scott. Lucky is my wife's first cousin. Sam Gooden of the Impressions is her father. Lucky passed away several years ago from a heart condition. He was out of state playing with a gospel group and was hospitalized. He seemed fine and returned home to a local hospital and suprisingly passed away the next day.Hope this info helps.
Darryl Griffin'

We would play an entire Curtis Mayfield set during a 6 set dance gig back in the day and some of my favorite moments were playing some of the fills in Freddie's Dead. We still occasionally do Move On Up and the bassline just drives the bus. A great player playing great material. |
