Julia Roberts on bass????

Sign in to disble this ad
Just flipping through the channels and i run across this movie called Satisfaction about an all girl band trying to make it big.
Who's the bassplayer you may ask. Julia Roberts!!! She is sporting a lefty Fender Jazz in sunburst and a Peavey Mark IV head with what appears to be a fridge type cab(810 maybe).

chick on the guitar doesn't look like she can actually play. Makes me wonder if Julia can actually play the bass?

Holy *&^T!! Photos too!!! I really didnt think anyone would reply on this one..LOL! It is interesting that she would play a lefty bass, not something you find in the prop room every day.
She seems to be holding it correct. Maybe she is on Talkbass too and we just dont know about it!! hahaha!!
Rock on Julia!!

CHECK THIS OUT FROM CNN ARCHIVE BIO:
Within two years and after some bit parts, Roberts landed a role in the low-budget movie "Satisfaction," the story of an all-female rock group starring Justine Bateman.

Roberts' manager claimed she could play the drums. This was not true, but Roberts managed to learn to play bass guitar. The movie closed soon after it opened, but there was an upside to her involvement in this project.

"21 years ago, when she slid frets in the trashy Satisfaction, as the bass player in an all-girl band for which she really learnt to play guitar under the tutelage of Booker T and the MGs' Steve Cropper"

When a girl looks that hot holding a jazz bass, I really don't care if she can play it or not.

Julia Roberts can play my Jazz bass any day.

I've seen that movie before, I think this was her first movie.

Saw these tidbits at IMDB:

Out of all of the band, the only one who could play guitar and sing was Britta Phillips. Before this movie, she was the singing voice of "Jem" on the cartoon series "Jem" (1985).

Britta Phillips actually played the bass before getting the role of Billie. She learned to play the guitar for her character in the film.

That movie was made long before she met Lovett. This was her first movie, IIRC.

Julia Roberts is actually left handed (They actually made a joke about it in one of the Ocean's movies). It's possible she's at least attempting to play in that photo.

Interesting find!

I like how everyone actually missed my post and is still discussing whether she actually can play. =P Steve Cropper apparently taught her. I think she learnt to play, just for the film.
