Wow, I just watched a whole show of the Adrien Belew Power trio on Rockpalast (who knew that show was still on?) and was blown away by Julie and her brother. I know she's on these forums once in a while, so Julie, if you read this, as a fellow Pennsylvanian bass player (albeit one who now lives in Boston), let me say how much I love your playing.
I highly recommend checking this out; SUPER aggressive P bass tone (very reminiscent of John Wetton's Crimson sound with the raging Hiwatts) and a multitude of playing approaches; pick, fingers and thumb- all really punishing the strings. Very melodically enthusiastic- there's a real joy in her playing and, honestly, she gives Adrian a run for his money on the sonic weirdness front- all the while pushing him to new heights. What a killer rhythm section.
Anyway, it immediately inspired me to turn up the pre on my amp. Way up, actually.

You could also check out other Belew Power Trio recordings like Side 4 Live , the download live in Japan set (Live Overseas on iTunes), or the new "e" album! The Rockpalast set is great, but there is a lot more.
Yes, Julie, I know you are there! Not being rude

As I said, my bass playing is also fueled by scrapple and Yeunling and your playing made me really happy. I hear some Tony Levin in there, of course, but were you ever into John Wetton? What bass players influenced you?

And Jack Bruce is what caused me to paint my first bass (a Squier Musicmaster) like his Fender VI, and Chris Squire is the reason I got Ric...

The streaming audio includes one cut from ABPT's "e," one from the recent Paper Cat studio session, and two new JS originals (!) from her in-progress solo project. (Can't wait to hear more from that!) |

my favorite "new" bass player. edgy, lots of chops that never get in the way of rocking out, thinks out of the box, looks great in black...what's not to like?
