Just been to see Nickelback...

And what a band! Mike's bass tone is absolutely awesome, cuts through the mix really well. He's also got a new Spector, looks like a NS5XL but with a single EMG P bass pick up (probably passive). Anyone else been to see them lately?

Nickelback and Creed bashing got old about 2 years ago.

Gratz on being edgy and hip.

Actually, if I were to see Nickleback, I would be flat out pissed if Mike's tone did not cut through. Those Spectors have a lot to do with it, but believe it or not, Mikes tone has always cut through and sounded pretty damn good. Now just to get him in a band that deserves him.

Hey to each his own. Frankly, with the amount of money he's earning, I don't think he cares anyways.

Probably 95% of the people who hate on Nickelback are jealous of this fact, and probably most of the people who like them are too.

Doesn't mean you aren't eating ****.
After a night of drinking and partying, a big mac for breakfast at 3am really hits the spot.

That guy's voice just grates on me. I can't switch the radio station fast enough.

Good bass tone is good bass tone no matter what band it's in.

Personally, I don't like Nickleback but listening to a good bass tone and solid playing would make the experience more enjoyable for me. IMO.

Look where the poster is from. Other countries don't hate first like Americans. Respect, stop hating fools!

Glad you really enjoyed the show!

Glad you had a good time, Im not a NB fan at all either, but a good "bass" show is still a good bass show.

"Oh come on - hating Nickelback is soooo 2001."
Good bass player. Good band, but I don't listen to tons of rock and roll, so maybe I should just knee-jerk hate them like a lot of these posters? : )

When I saw them, Mike was locking in really well with Danny Adair, who plays his butt off on the drums.

OP: Sorry for people raining on your parade.

The thing that gets me on this is that they were made fun of for having a song with a nearly identical chord progression. So what? That's actually a very common occurrence in music. When I was a music teacher, we used to work with partner songs for the elementary kids so they could sing two different songs together at the same time.

So really... no big deal. It's what you DO with the progression to make the one song different than the other that's the important thing.

Well this turned into a complete farce of a thread didn't it?! I never made any comment about the band, just Mike's basses and tone.

Also, I can say one thing; having met Mike, he's a really cool down to earth guy, who is just like any of us, he loves his bass playing.

I would probably hate some of the bands you guys play in, but I don't go spouting off about how crap it is, and create Facebook groups about it.

I've been slagged off so many times for liking Nickelback.....I have been for the last 8 years. Know what? I still like them, so telling me they're crap has REALLY made me stop buying their albums and enjoying their music, hasn't it? Yeh, right....

Some Creed and Nickelback songs are really good and some are really awful. Both bands have really good guitar tone and both have lead singers with good voices. Many people don't like their lyrics.

I don't particularly care about Nickleback one way or the other. I have their first CD, got it when it came out. It's pretty ok. The bass sounded pretty good to me.

Would I pay to see them? Probably not.
Will I buy another CD by them? Probably not.
Do I hate them? No, they just don't interest me that much.
Would I turn down free tickets to see them? No.

I respect the fact that they pulled this off in a tough market. Go enjoy them if you want, fine by me.

Exactly.

As soon as I saw your thread yesterday I knew where it was headed. You didn't ask anyone's opinions about the band or anything of that nature. I am not sure why it had to turn into a Nickelback bashing thread. Anybody I know that has seen them live say they put on one heck of a show.

I am not a NB fan but I respect that they have made their living playing music. Not serving Big Macs during the day and playing 2-bit clubs at night. The 7,000,000 CDs sold is low. They were the 11th biggest selling band of the past decade. Over 30,000,000 CDs sold worldwide.

I also laugh at the self righteous who say they would rather play great music - in other words typically self indulgent music that most people don't give a crap about - than sell records. What a crock. I would tour with fricking Madonna or Britney Spears if it meant I was being paid to play music and not have to go to work everyday. Give me a break.

So haters keep hating but that's not what the original purpose of the thread was.
