this just blew me away- chris dave trio- pocket.

the way he holds that down while chris dave toys with your perception of the beat is absolutely ridiculous. makes me feel like all the studying of melodic concepts i do over chord changes is useless- this is where i need to be getting my workout.. in extreme pocket rhythms and beat placement..

just thought i should share this. i'm not even sure who this bass player is.

The bass player played for Miles(mainly piccolo bass) for a while. Drums for George Clinton. And as well as having played bass for a host of others.

Here he is playing piccolo bass with Miles.

Great sense of internal time, first time I heard of Foley was through a flexi disc that came with Guitar Player around '88, he was doing his thing on it, it was wicked.

The vid reminds me of a little quip from a bandleader I worked with years back, he always told everyone to keep their own sense of internal time, that way if someone messes up (especially on the kit), it doesn't turn the whole thing into a trainwreck and keeps the pulse, it was a good piece of advise.

Double Booked is definitely worth the buy. Chris Dave, Robert Glasper, Derrick Hodge, Vicente Archer. That CD stays in my deck in the car.

Chris Dave is one of my favorites of the newer/younger drummers, great feel on everything.

Foley is a beast. we used to write songs together in the late 80's, right before he got the Miles gig. I was playing keys in those days. He can hold down the groove through all the madness because he plays drums himself. I don't the Clinton gig really shows what he's capable of as a drummer.
