Just like a bassist.

Me and my cousin were watching the third Lord of the Rings and Sam is just like a bassist. He kept Froto going and kept the story moving, he saved Froto's life many times and never got credit for it. Everybody was worried about Froto when if it wasn't for Sam, the ring would have never gotten to Mt. Doom. In the same way the bassist is what keeps the music going and usually doesn't get as much credit. So who is the "bassist" in some other movies? Another is Pumba in The Lion King.

I like your analogy, but doesn't it basically mean the "bassist" is the fat friend who gets no respect (or top billing) in all the movies?
