...with Bela and the flecktones last night in Shelburne, VT. It was an amazing show and vic can really tear it up live. I've always thought his solo stuff was impressive, but bland. With bela, he really comes alive.

I dunno, maybe my appreciation was due to the second-hand high, but it was amazing either way.

edit: oh yeah, i got a clip on my cell phone of his bass solo.. i'll try to get it online.

I was a fan of his early solo stuff, but agreed, the Flecktones are a consistently amazing live act.

i will admit that i haven't listened to a whole lot of his solo stuff, but what i've heard has all been the same:

great chops
+
cheesy lyrics and/or song progression

Flecktones = sensory overload. I leave their concerts having heard so many notes I'm just overloaded. It's incredible and I love it but they almost kill me!

I've seen them 4 or 5 times so far.

my only gripe with the flecktones is that once you've seen one show, you've seen it. their funny stage antics are even the same from show to show. ofcourse, i'll see the same show 50 times in a row if vic is playing...but it is a bit of a let down the second time you see them and you realize that all of those in the moment things are really rehearsed.

yeah - I even heard that some "musicians" play their songs hundreds of times to get them down for live shows.

I'm sure that the Flecktones will be flattered knowing that all those year mastering their craft wasn't in vain, they can improvise as well as the Chili Peppers. Maybe they'll write a couple of songs about california and come out with socks on their c*cks.

Saw the Flecktones last night with Del McCoury and a Cape Breton rock/trad band. BEST SHOW EVER. For the encore all three bands played an old-time bluegrass, a traditional aire with a new-age feel, and another bluegrass tune. It doesn't get any better than that, having like 15 of the best musicians in the world jam out some bluegrass. Got to meet Vic, Jeff, and Bela afterwards. Awesome guys.

yep, same bands at the show i saw. Actually, the reason we went is because my dad is a big Natalie McMaster fan, but i was excited to go because of Vic. They did the same thing for the encore with all three bands.

To be honest, I was actually more excited about Bela himself and Jeff Coffin than about Victor. Yes, Victor is great and a true innovator, but he gets so much attention among bass players that the other players get overshadowed a little. I just LOVE Bela's fusion of bluegrass and jazz solos, and Jeff's phrasing and tone and note choice is absolutely beautiful.

Jeff and Bela are definately amazing players. I would like their live performance much better if futureman played real drums instead of playing the "synthaxe drumitar".

I've always had problems with putting a sock on my clock. Doesn't tick the same way.

I'm trying to get Tickets to see Bela Fleck and the Flecktones in Toronto on September 13th. I'll be living up there, so it'd be 20 minutes away.

That'd be really cool.

agreed that Vic's best setting is the Flecktones. I've seen him w/Mike Stern and Dennis Chambers and that was great also.

Talking Vics Best Setting?

Have any of you guys seen Vics "Soul Circus"......I've read "Cheesy Songs" & "Same Old Same Old".....Am I on a different planet or what? Don't miss the soul Circus if Vic comes around. And don't be afraid to take your mom!

I saw the Soul Circus in the city. Him and his brothers all played together (so he claimed) for the first time in years. MC Divinity got to play one of her own songs, too, which kinda sucked.

i saw wooten once with the flecktones and also on his yin yang tour with his brothers. i must say, i walked out of both those shows a changed man. i mean, how much talent can you get out of one family? his brother, reggie, is a guitar god, and his other brother, i can't recall his name at the moment, was on the keys and played the b3 like no one i've ever heard.
