Just visited Jaco's grave

I was down in Ft. Lauderdale for last night's Rush concert. A bonus was that I got to visit Jaco. Just came back from the cemetery... it was a pretty heavy trip. It's nice that I got to be there though. Apparently it's a pretty popular place. I asked one of the guys where Section L was and he asked what part. I had barely said the plot and grave number when he says "I know exactly who you're looking for, follow me." Just glad I took the time to go there.

So many sad stories regarding talented musicians.

Wonder what Jaco and Jamerson would be doing today if they were still alive? Even at 75yo, I bet Jamerson could still lay down the funk.

Most of the bass icons who inspired me are still living. Geddy Lee, Jimmy Johnson, Lee Sklar, John Cowan, Mark King, Paul McCartney, John Paul Jones, Victor Wooten, Carol Kaye, and being a child of the 80's...I have to put John Taylor in there, some of those Duran Duran bass lines were killer!

You may find it really hard to believe that before I started playing bass, I had no idea who James Jamerson or Jaco were.

Not hard to believe. Jamerson and the rest of the Funk Brothers weren't even credited on any of the albums they worked on until Motown's run was just about over. They were complete unknowns. I'd guess a lot of bassists didn't even know him until after his death.

Jaco was more well known since Weather Report was famous but I'd guess outside the jazz-fusion world his wasn't a household name.
