Jason plays his ass off on that album, unfortunately you can't hear alot of it.

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned it, but there are some mp3's floating around of AJFA tracks re-mixed with re-recorded basslines by TB'er Lokire... they're pretty cool, however I do not have a link handy...

I preferred Cliff, but whatever floats your boat.

Definitely no way I could ever diss Cliff, he is a legend but Jason was always my favorite. I love both bassists.

If you listen closely, there are times you can hear his bass tone, but of course they turned his volume way down in the mixing process. I swear he used some sort of SVT/810 rig in the recording studio. I can hear a faint growly bass tone on a few songs, but I really don't understand why he had to be turned down. It's not like his playing detracted from all of the insanity those guitarists created! It's every Guitard's favorite album - uggh!

Your grammar hurts my brain.

I'm really not sure what you're trying to say here.

Translation to Garbled post

I'm sorry but I do not agree with the popularity around Metallica. I believe that they aren't as strong as other bands of the time and genre. I do feel the same about Led Zeplin.

I always kinda thought that I should pick that album up, as I'd been a fan since about 1985 and I have everything else they did up to and including the black album, before they went to sh*t. AJFA just never did it for me, Cliff's death aside, Master Of Puppets' awesomeness aside, and Newkid aside - that must be why... no bass...

I've always viewed post Cliff Burton Metallica as less of a band and more of a guitar duet with drum accompaniment.

Cliff era Metallica wasn't any different. You might have heard the bass sometimes when you were alone and the treble was broken on your speakers, but even then he just copied James the whole time. Big whoop.

Dude when I heard people talking about how great both Newsted and Cliff were I was beginning to wonder if I was the only person on here who can't here the basslines. I can hardly hear the basslines on ANY of there albums unless of course it is in an opening riff or a small bridge part.
