Don't flame me if this has already been posted...

I just heard that Eddie Van Halen's son will be playing bass for Van Halen...is this some kind of stunt?

I don't see a problem. If he's anything like his Dad and Uncle, he's probably a a fine musician.

I know Wolfgang is supposed to be a really good guitar player, but I wonder why Michael Anthony isn't all about a Van Halen reunion, he's SOOO busy after all.

EVH has probably fired him.
apparently EVH didn't want him on the last tour and MA had to take a pay cut to be part of it.

EVH was peeved about him playing with Sammy Hagar outside van halen. rather petty.

+1

But whether he can lay it down at MA standars remains to be seen...

Eddie's son if fifteen isn't there labor laws about that? I don't really have a problem with it as long as Wolfie wants to go and is treated well. Plus it’s none of my business. Based on what I've read though I have a hard time believing Eddie will treat his son any better than he treats other band members.
I wouldn't go see them unless it was the original line up. I don't Eddie's ego doesn't need any more stroking.

It'd be nice if Michael Anthony was treated well after all these years of dealing with the various massive egos in van halen. It's a really lame move to sidestep him on some phony reunion tour. Eddie is not so much a cool guy.

I do believe there are exceptions for working with/for family.

Stunt? Hardly. Van Halen is comprised of family, why not add another member?

Plus, it should be mentioned, Michael Anthony sang all those super high background vocals- his voice is a major part of Van Halen's sound (especially on the older stuff). It'll all start out OK, but once Wolfie's voice changes, they'll be sorry.

Thumbs down

It's really simple. No MA = No VH. I'm fairly annoyed by this, as Mike's prob'ly my #1 influence as a player. I don't even really care who's singing, I've bought all the albums with all the singers, but Mikey makes that band what it is. With the VH brothers going off (musically), someone has to mind the store, so to speak. And yet, he gets bagged on for being "boring" or "simple".

I may have to edit my sig in protest.

OMG - EVH will be 52 in January.

I think Coco Chanel said it best:

Nature gives you the face you have at twenty. Life shapes the face you have at thirty.
But at fifty you get the face you deserve.
