Kenny Rogers?!

I was shocked to see that Kenny Rogers was playing stand up bass
in this promotional video for his DVD, "Kenny Rogers-The Journey".
He's singing and playing with Willie Nelson.
You can't hear him playing, but you can sure see him-twice there
is a shot of him and Willie together on stage playing & singing.
I never knew he played bass, I guess there are a lot of things we
don't know about performers who are known primarily as singers.

Here's the Youtube link:

OK. I did a little more digging, and it turns out he was playing bass in First Edition.
Here's a clip of him doing some mighty fine Pick playin' for "Ruby". Playing and singing-nice.
Go Kenny!

Actually, he is a butt kicking bass player . I saw him around 1970 in Houston at a Pizza Inn. He played bass in a jazz trio in his early years, but probably realized that the big money was as an entertainer, not a bass player, so he lost the bass. That Ruby electric bass work was great. Wish I had that bass.

Kenny played bass with his band the First Edition. Their big hit was Just Dropped In To See What Condition My Condition Was In. I believe Joe Osborn played on the studio track.
