Kevin Chown of the Bombastic Meatbats

Due to my obsessive love for the members of the Red Hot Chili Peppers and a freak chance on Youtube, I came across this jam band called Chad Smith[of RHCP fame]'s Bombastic Meatbats. They have put out an album, and man, is it ever awesome. It's all instrumental, and it's all pretty funky. I'd recommend it to anybody. But, now to the point. Playing bass for said group is Kevin Chown from a band called Uncle Kracker, which I had never even heard of. He sports an EBMM SR5, and he uses it pretty well. What can TalkBass tell me about this guy? I'd like to hear more of what he's got.

I have his solo CD that he released in the 90's around here somewhere, I have to dig it out because I haven't heard it in quite awhile. I remember him being a smoking player though!

He's a local Detroit guy.
We used to take lessons from the same teacher here in town.
Insane technical ability. The boy can play!
Nice guy. Don't really "know" him. Ran into him a few times in the past.
Good guy.
Great player.

I've been listening to the Bombastic Meatbats a lot for the last two weeks. I love the bass on the two albums...very tasteful.

...in fact I love every instruments on those albums!

Chad Smith is pretty much the best bit of the RHCP these days....

Apparently these guys got together as Glenn Hughes' backing band, and then went on without him, with Chown on bass.

Exactly!

I really like Jeff Kollman's guitar work too.
