Killer Bass Line - Larry Taylor (I'm Not Your Steppin' Stone)

A bud and I record cover songs using Garage Band for S&G's. Ever once in a while, I get an bit of inspiration, and this morning, I heard The Monkee's "I'm Not Your Steppin' Stone" on XM radio, and thought that may be a fun next project.

I was 99.9% sure that it was NOT played by any of the Monkees, so a quick trip to the web revealed that Larry Taylor played on a lot of tracks on the 1st two records, including Steppin' Stone.

What a great bass line! Simple, but perfect, and magnificent tone. I am guessing flats with a pick, and given that it was recorded in 1966, probably a Precision? Anyone have any specifics about those sessions?

I searched here for "Larry Taylor", and pretty much all the threads were for his work with Canned Heat. Anyway, just thought I would share that, in case anyone was wondering who that was. :-)
