Saw them at UCSD tonight.

What an amazing P bass tone. Great, great show with two encores, closing with 'Gigantic'.

I can't get over her tone - with a pick - the bass sounded round, mean, warm and driving all at once.

Could be their last US show ever.

+1 all round!

One has to wonder how much Steve Albini influenced her sound--if he did, it probably was something like, just mic the ****ing amp right. It's amazing how that record sort of stands for a point where music could have gone down a totally different path.

Thought i'd do a thread ressurection, rather than start a new one!!

Just curious... what kinda gear did/does Kim use?

I haven't kept up on the Pixes as well as i should have... Is her tone the standard P bass through an SVT? Didn't she use a non-Fender P... an Aria i want to say...?

I do know she used an Aria Pro II Cardinal Series bass in the beginning. I have some video links on my Aria blog...The Cardinals were made in the early '80s and were medium scale, with a single pickup which is basically like a P pickup.

The Aria sounds pretty good, too! As for the other equipment, I'm afraid I don't know.

what? they're splitting or what??
At least I got to see them in Ferrara (Italy) this summer. Great show and band.

She is completely crazy in my opinion, she learnt this sentence in Italian "E' la nostra prima volta qui a Ferrara" (It's our first time here in Ferrara) and kept saying it all the time with the funniest American accent. She said at least 6-7 times. Before a song she said it like three times in a row.

Anyway yeah she's got a pretty simple take on the instrument, her tone is essential but really good.
