So, who, in your mind, is the better bassist in this genre...

I think Matt freeman revolutionized punk bass, no one can touch his fast out burst of notes and yet he still knows when to hold the fort. Matt's playing has been a huge influence for me.

and when was Rancid pop?

I shudder at the lack of Karl Alverez (Descendents/ALL) as a choice in the poll.

How naive...

Rancid hit it big with "Ruby Soho" in the nineties, so to say "around 2K1" is a joke.

Not that it even matters.

Nevertheless, if you're voting for Mike Dirnt, your ears deceive you.

If you call Rancid pop-punk, you will make me angry.

What would you call them then? Certainly not punk.

I Doubt that. Rancid's And Out Come the Wolves... is a great album with great bass playing

I Generally like all there stuff from 1990-1997, i haven't listened ot them in a while tho, I probably should...

And yeah - all the descendents bassists were good, but their names slip me - Milo Goes To College is great playing

That's right, punker than thou. What other genre could you possibly call Rancid by?

Voted Freeman, Dirnt's great in the genre but can't touch Freeman's style.

I've always prefered Dirnts phrasing. They're both great, I don't really see their styles as being comparable.
Matt Freeman vs. the first bass player from Satanic Surfers makes more sense to me. Speed vs. speed.
Dirnt vs Alvarez would be a good comparison.

The label pop to me doesn't classify things as popular, pop has always been radio rock and such, very mainstream. Thats why I hate titles, the word punk has been dragged through the dirt labeling everything from simple plan to even AC DC . Emo is another horrible one. What music doesnt have emotion?
