King's X Thanksgiving show

Saw King's X opening for Skid Row on Thanksgiving night. I took a good look at dUg's rig after the set, and he had added an Aguilar pre-amp to the mix. I asked him afterwards if he was using that instead of the Ampeg, and he said he is using both of them at the same time. He apparently is running stereo out of his tuner pedal into both of them. Interesting.

On a side note, I left after about five songs of the Skid Row set. Johnny Solinger was suprisingly better since the last time I saw him in Dallas in the mid 90's. However, the rest of the band was just average. Rather disappointing.

It makes me sad to think that King's X had to open for Skid Row. If anything, it should be the other way around.

Ain't that the truth. One of the most underrated bands EVER! At least during their Atlantic days...

Is the high side of his triamp setup still the old Traynor Bassmaster?

I don't believe so. I don't think he is even triamping anymore. He had the Aguilar, an Ampeg SVT 4 head, and an Ampeg SVT Pro head all in his rack. I believe he was using the Aguilar and SVT Pro as his two preamps. I think the 4 was either a backup or he was only using the power amp section.

I would love to see King's X--'Gretchen goes to Nebraska' was something of an obsession album for me back in the day. As for Skid Row, well...(shrugs)

King's X played here in Indy about a year ago with Fishbone opening. They played a small local club with only about 60-80 people attending. That was pretty incredible (and a little sad at the same time on how few people were there).

Yeah, I saw them during the tour for their self-titled album and they sold out a ~1500 seat theater (Henry Fonda Theater). Then a few years later my band opened up for them at a small club that couldn't have held more than 250. And I don't think the show even sold out. It is a crime that they are reduced to this.

I am not worried about their demise. They are all doing a ton of side projects and releasing alot of old King's X material that has never come out before. Signing a new management and distribution deal with Inside Out does not hurt either. I know the label is 100% behind them. They actually had a new tour bus from the last time I saw them two years ago, so the money is there.
