Anyone know what gear Klaus Voorman used on the Plastic Ono Band albums?

Some of the best sounding bass I've ever heard.

Great album, but not sure. I saw a doc. on the making of this album on Netlfix a while back (probably still there), but I do not recall them mentioning it. You might be able to get an idea by going to YouTube and searching for "John Lennon live in Toronto", and you can at least see what he's playing onstage at this period.

this article states that he used a sunburst ’64 Fender Precision with La Bella flatwounds, recorded both direct and through a miked Ampeg B-15 for the “Whatever Gets You Thru the Night” session. What a gorgeous tone he has!! John Lennon

He played that same P bass throughout the 60's and 70's. Not a flashy bassist by any means, but the epitome of a pocket player.

I've got to think that Phil Spector's production is somewhat responsible for that sound. The bass sound on a lot of Spector's productions are great. I think a lot of that may be attributable to the fact that on most of the sessions Spector produced,Carol Kaye was on bass. But Klaus Voorman definitely had an amazing groove of his own. His taste and tone on "Imagine" alone are definitely noteworthy.

He used his P bass on almost everything he did in that period. The same one he uses in the DVD about the making of that album, which is fantastic. They solo some of Lennon's vocal tracks and it's goosebump city. They didn't do anything to his voice on that album, he just sings so well it'll freak you out.

You can hear his great bouncy tone on the George Harrison live 71 concert for Bangladesh. No studio trickery with Klaus, he had a great sound...to me thats the epitomy of what 'P' should sound like.

And don't forget, he also recorded with Carly Simon. Give a listen again to You're So Vain.

He used that same 60's P on everything.
