What kind of basses does he play on his newest cd "Now"? I got his cd off of itunes and of course it doesn't have any info there. I went to his site and it said he uses Phil Jones Bass amps and Labella strings but no basses are listed. He has what looks like an older Ibanez around his neck but that's all I can see.
Anyone know anything?

Looks like an older Ibanez or Yamaha but it's so hard to tell. All I know is that it had a KILLER low B growl to it, at least in the studio. Anyone who loves great bass tone needs to get his latest cd. It's not overbearing like some some other solo bassist's cd's. In some of the songs you hardly notice a distinct sound but you know it's there. Perfect example of how the bass should be mixed.

They looked identical except for color and one was fretless. When I saw him he had a SWR rig with (2) 4x10's. He also played a CzechEase upright.

I just noticed that when he played on his cd that the basses, both fretted and fretless, had a very smooth sound and cut through the mix nicely. Sounds like they may have had Bartolini pickups.

I remember him saying that the pickups business was a big trial and error process because they wanted to get the frequencies just right for the preamp.

The gold coloured bits on the headstock - the one on the right hand side was a Gibson logo, and the bit to the left was in a curly script that I couldn't read properly, but there were two words. The first was bunny, and the second word began with a b as well but I couldn't make out what it said. The black fretless had the same, but where the Gibson logo is on the green one, there is a bit of black electrical tape (possibly covering another Gibson logo).
They both had Bartolinis (or at least Bart pickup covers).
He was using an Ashdown MAG 4x10 combo.
He also had a Boss Tuner (I think it was a TU-12), a Boss LS-2 Line Selector, a Digitech BP200 and a Morley Little Alligator volume pedal.
