Even though I subscribe to Bassplayer, when I saw the new issue dedicated to Larry Graham at Borders, I went and bought it anyway. It will be a priviledge to have two copies of this issue! I haven't read it yet, work has been keeping me really busy, but it looks like it is packed with lots of great info. The piece on Bobby Vega, which analyzes somne Graham lines, is great too. I am so happy to see an article like this. So often great and innovative players like Jamerson, Pastorius, or Bernard Edwards, don't live long enough to really get the accolades they have earned. I am so glad that Graham is still here and in good health (still jammin') and can hear how much he is appreciated.

I was amazed to see that he's not wearing all white in the cover pic! Seems like every pic I've seen in the last few years, he's all in white with a white bass. I keep waiting to hear that he's changed his name to Devadip!

Always brightens my day - but to have Larry Graham featured makes it that much brighter!

The Larry Graham article is good, but I already knew a lot about him. The rest of the issue sucked, no good bands, or songs or anything. |

And he looks amazing for his age, he was doing his thing almost 40 years ago! I recently caught him and GCS, for free! at Prince's club here in Vegas. It was like every bassist in town was getting schooled. He has a wonderful demeanor , very , very pleasant person and his tone and playing is simply thunderous. All I could say was " Thank you, Larry! "
Kato (sp?), who played guitar with MeShell was with him and that guy can flat out play his butt off!
Took a cool pic with my phone and some security guy made me erase it
Come on, man, it's Larry G, not Paris Hilton or some waste like that |

The Graham cover/full-length feature was LONG overdue...other articles that interested me were-
Dee Murray
John Patitucci's "Brecker For Bass"
The Zappa transcription
The previous 4-5 issues had, like, nada.
I was almost at the point of firing off one of my patented e-mails to Bill Leigh.

The TalkBass site is good value for the money too mind!

I mean, it's not like the guy was the greatest improviser on ANY instrument, since maybe Coltrane. Who wants to read about that. |

PS: I don't know if he can hang with "jazz duds" or not. I never heard him doing anything but Blink182 stuff.
