Last time I heard about Larry (some years ago maybe in a Bass Player mag.) he had given up electric bass for upright and wouldn't play with anything but gut strings. Yep, as I remember he played a P bass in the 60's-70's. I assume he is alive and well.

He's on a bunch of Tom Waits records, playing upright.

Opened for Canned Heat years ago, they were endorsed by Randall back then, a veritable wall of Randall amps,...and yeah, he was on a P bass.

His work with Canned Heat and John Mayall was a big influence on me when I was young.

Great player, I had the opportunity to hear him at several shows in the '60's and '70's.

I saw him with Canned Heat around 1974 or so. Still playing the Precison then (don't recall the amp) with LaBella flats. He broke a string and a buddy of mine (we BOTH should have been studying for an organic chem final that night) got it when Larry tossed it out into the audience.

I heard "On the road Again" in a movie I saw recently - & it sure sounded good again. Also heard "Reelin in the Years" too - I'll always love that song

Reelin in the Years; Was a steely Dan song off a album cut in 72. I don't believe he played with them ever?

He is still alive and well. I particularly liked his work with Hollywood Fats. He plays upright now and occasionally an old, defretted Harmony electric when there are space considerations. He was one of my major influences.

Taylor shares bass duties with Willie Weeks in the concert film 'Lightning In A Bottle', wonderful stuff!
