I`d like to tell you about one of the best bass players in Finland.
I hit the search and only found one thread about this guy Lauri Porra.

He is currently playing in Finnish metal band Stratovarius.

He has allso released his own solo album, and played in many many differend bands from differend styles of music.

He has a classical backround, but you can read more from hes web site.

When playing with Stratovarius he reminds me about Cliff Burton with hes moshing and playing style. Poor qualituy clip but you see what I mean:

and playing a solo:

some may think from this that hes some cliff cnock off but think again....:

bit different...

other little fact is that he is related to world famous composer Jean Sibelius.

check him out...

Meh.

I realy missed Jari Kainulainen, and i must say after that gig, nothing will change my mind about thinking that Lauri thinks hes Cliff Burton Reincarnated.

great comment though:
"HI! im laura porra! I play some bass... And drink some beer!"

I agree that Jari was (and still is) great player.. Very solid but no stage presence... (ok I`v seen only videos)

Jari just got sick of the guitarist/vocalist depate in the band..
Looking forward seeing him with some other band.
I would like to see Jari doing a solo..

Still I think that Porra is very talented.. Look other projects than Stratovarius..

and Thunder_Fingers: thanks for mentioning Jari.. I just found his current band! In case you didn`t know: http://www.messmetal.net/

Porra is a slang for sperm in portuguese and also a way to say "fock" when something bad happens

I just saw Lauri Porra live here with Strato. He's fantastic, plays a mean bass, and has a great personality. I was able to meet him after the show. Nice guy!

Long live STRATOVARIUS!!!!
