I was wondering what your thoughts were on Motorhead's bassist, Lemmy. Such as his ability, technique etc. |

Loads of ability, a wonderful ear for the music he is playing and I really enjoy his throaty vocals. He is a great showman and I recall about 12 months ago when they were last here in Australia that after the 2 support bands, Airbourne and Rose Tattoo had finished, we thought oh wow, how can they top this? They came on and belted into Dr Rock and the crowd was just in stunned silence for the first 30 seconds of the number. It's hard te describe how simply awsome they were. The crowd were just floored by the energy. Great sound, super light show and a crazy song to start if all off with! |

anyway - he role as a bass player is beyond technique an ability. like promoting the instrument and stuff. can you imagine the amount of kids started playing bass and/or rickenbacker because of him.
this looks like a discussing mike watt's technique or if ian mackaye is good singer or not.....
if kilmister would go up on a stage, sit in the chair for an hour and go away, for that would be quite a performance. http://tinyurl.com/8a92le |

What struck me then (and everytime I have heard them on record since) is how unique a player he is. He's perfect for Motorhead, 'cos at the end of the day He IS Motorhead. It's built around him. HE is what makes Motorhead great and is why people love them.
Lemmy is a great bloke and appears to be totally unchanged.
I'd like to hear what he sounds like when he plays with his hobby bar band and just plays old rock and roll standards.

Seems like he goes for a quasi tic-tac bass sound alongside the upright. |

I was kind of "eh" on him until I heard the bass tone in the beginning of "Ace of Spades" - now that's how to start a song.
One of the local record stores has an action figure of Lemmy- I think about buying it every time I go there... |
