Leo Lyons - Ten Years After

First off, RIP Alvin Lee.

Carry over from the Misc. Forum on Alvin Lee's death.

Saw Leo Lyons with Ten Years After back in the '70's and I was amazed how hard and fast he was playing bass. He played as though he was slapping the strings silly. (not the funk slap we think of today)
Not surprising, his Jazz bass has that Battered spouse look

I saw them play way back when too--must've been late 70's I guess. I remember that as well--he was playing crazy hard and really smacking the bass on really fast walking parts, etc. Gives me a cramp just thinking about it....

He produced my favorite UFO albums too! (Phenomenon, Force It, No Heavy Petting)

I heard and enjoyed Leo's playing long before I ever saw him live. I wasn't prepared to see his physical approach to the instrument. Wow! An enthusiastic player for sure--and obviously a source of supportive energy to his bandmates. I dig that old J Bass too.
