Oh, and how about Ray Ransom from Brick? Nice, laid-back finger funk!

Marvin Isley was nice, too, especially the way he intertwined his lines with synth bass. He was one of the first people besides Jermaine Jackson and Stanley to make me notice Alembics.

"Are You Single" was by Aurra. They were a spinoff from Slave. The bass was by Steve Washington, Slave's trumpeter. I was playing an cassette of Aurra for my big daughter (five) just the other day.

Gordon Edwards. He is a great bass player that is rarely mentioned. I first heard him on Esther Phillips From A Whisper to a Scream album. He played on a lot of the Kudo label records back with Grover Washington and others were on Kudo. Gordon later playing in the band Stuff with Cornell Dupree and Richard Tee. He did a lot of session work include with John Lennon, Paul simon and others. Real funky cat that only the hard core know about.
