Classic Wayman.

I was familiar with his recordings but never saw him live. The technique he exhibits in this video is striking. What, exactly, was he doing to get such a smooth tone?

I always thought tone comes from the right hand (aka the 'pickup' hand, as he's obviously a southpaw)...and he's got it goin' on in that video...He will be missed.

Great stuff - still hard to believe he's passed on.

Looks like Bill Sharpe backing him up on low bass.

He played with his thumb/thumbnail- watch again at 2:40. Also note that his bass is strung upside down. He was a good player.
How so smooth? Good player. Maybe some compression/chorus, dunno for sure.

Dmusic...thank you for noting that fact...after he died I did, in fact notice that fact...sort of like Dick Dale (who also played with the strings backward)...

Did anybody read the comments that came with that clip? Marcus Miller played that song at his funeral. Looking at that clip got me bummed out again. Wayman Tisadale was just such a good example of how to live your life, and how to get the most out of your abilities. I need to remember him whenever I run into difficulties.

I'm not sure when the clip was recorded; it was uploaded to YouTube back last year.

Cancer can work very, very quickly.
