Lighting Bolt thread

I couldn't find any recent LB threads when I was searching, so I figured while I was googling I might as well get some stuff down here.

Here's some info on Brian Gibson.

His earlier bass was a beat up jazz with Stingray parts. After they became a little more well known he picked up a 5 string MM Stingray.
I believe it's tuned in 5ths, with the highest string being a banjo string. According to Wikipedia the tuning is C G D A E, with banjo strings for the high A and E.

But they look like pretty skinny strings:

Amps.
From what I'm seeing, he used
(2) 4x10s (SWR and unknown)
(2) 4x12s (Marshall and unknown)
at least (2) 1x15's, unknown
and possible another 15 cab (the red one)

What appears to be a powered PA speaker on top is probably for the "vocals."

What I can make out for amps seems to be a Harkte, an Ampeg SVT-3 Pro, and a pair of QSC power amps.

Of course the amps and speakers would be changed as needed using whatever was avaliable.

On the floor, you can see at least one DL-4, Boss Overdrive pedals, Boss Octave pedal, a Bass Whammy, and a Boss V-wah.

And what looks like a Holy Grail? Or other EH pedal

There are lots of pictures on their website.

Feel free to discuss LB and/or your other favorite noise/drum and bass bands.

I like me some Lightning Bolt.

Other bass/drum duos I like:

OM and Ruins.

He is from my hometown of Burlington, VT. When I was captain of my high school soccer team, he was on my squad. He used to call me "Les Jaypool". His nickname? "Yabby". Awesome.

Lightning Bolt sure is a great duo, Ride the Skyes is a masterpiece IMO

I think Lightning Bolt and Big Business should join up for some good times. Maybe call themselves Lightning Business.

How could that be bad? Nope, it couldn't.

ive been to a festival with both big business and lightning bolt... it was the best...

gibson has used a few basses including a stingray , a stingray 5 and an old beaten up jazz bass (non fender)

he also uses (or at least use to use) swr 4x10's with carvin speakers and some type of sub.

as for the pedals, those pictures already posted are right, although the times when ive seen lightning bolt he didnt have the wah.

his rack setup changes a bit every now and then, i know he used to use ampeg svt 4pro heads but i think he now uses a seperate preamp/poweramp setup.

ive met gibson a couple of times .. he is a cool guy as is chippendale

I tried really hard to like Lightning Bolt to no avail. Oh well, it's not for everyone.

I didn't like them as much until I saw the DVD.

Definetly more of a live band, all through there are definite 'wow' moments on record, as well.
