Flea is debatable, it's been creeping up over the years.

As has the angle of his thumb.

Alot of metal players have it really low... maybe so they can see what they're doing whilst headbanging

Frank Bello from Anthrax has his bass pretty low.

Oh man...to feel the carpal tunnel developing just from seeing those photos...

Sorry...but, it's a major peeve of mine. It's impossible to have good technique and be a good player while hanging your bass that low...unless you're a gorilla.

Yeah, there's nobody worse than Norwood Fisher, Cliff Burton and Rob Trujillo

To be fair, Robert Trujillo might be part gorilla.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who thought he looked like a gorilla I don't get why he hangs it that low... it doesn't look cool ya know

Dave Ellefson, formerly of Megadeth, slung his bass low, and looked damn cool doing it!

Actually, he keeps his bass above the beltline. It's just the low crouching stance he takes while playing live that creates the impression of a low hanging bass.

There are videos (at Youtube e.g) of CC in the studio where he shows his gear etc. You can see it there.

Pardon...my BS detector went off. Different players are comfortable with different styles and techniques. I don't play mine as extremely low as some of these guys, but definitely enough to CYN. If you get it done, you get it done - period.

It's metal... I've never heard Frank Bello go anywhere near the G.

Also, Trujillo is usually about a foot off the ground anyway, so I figure he and his bass have no choice but to meet somewhere in the middle.

That is actually a pretty good idea. That way he can fool all the metalheads in the crowd into thinking he is playing low while keeping good technique at the same time.
