Got to see the Kenny Loggins & Jimmy Messina "Together Again" concert last night (18 Sept) at the Borgata in Atlantic City. Great concert! Everything from an out and out old time country / western song, through country rock, to out and out rock and roll - with a few blues pieces in between. They included a few instrumental pieces as well, which they all kicked *** on!!
Bass player was introduced as George Matthews Jr. (Mathias? Was a bit hard to make out the name.) Played a black Ernie Ball Musicman (Stingray?) with black pickguard. Couldn't tell what kind of amp from where I was sitting; the cab was a 4x10 with a "Dick Eden" logo on it. (The friend I went with kidded me because I was spending more time with my small binoculars watching the bassist's fingers and trying to make out the make & model of his gear than watching the two main stars... ) Really nice tone, as far as I was concerned; cut through the mix just enough that you could HEAR the bass if you were listening for it, but not so much that it overwhelmed anything else. If you get a chance to see them, it's a show well worth going to.

And according to the L&M website, it's George Hawkins, who has been around the L&M/Fleetwood Mac camp for quite a while.

Also hadn't had a chance to check the L&M website today... thanks for the info. In any case, that bass sounded HOT...

| | | | Hello to All,
If you want to listen to George Hawkins in depth.
Go buy or download (Kenny Loggins - ALIVE or Delbert McClinton - LIVE)
This is some of the best bass playing I have ever heard. To me this is what a bass player should sound like and play like. (Just my Opinion)
Have a Great Day,
4 string player |

| | | | George Hawkins is a total bad ass...funky bass figures while doing some nice harmony vocals.
Glad to hear he's still with Loggins.
On a tangent-
Messina's Oasis album (late '70s-era) had some nice bass work by Wayne Nelson...someone that, TMK, doesn't get any props here at TB.

If it's the Wayne Nelson from Little River Band, I absolutely agree. Great bassist and a pretty good vocalist to boot.

And those two guys out front are pretty good, too.:-)
